The Free State Badminton Association (FSBA) exists to promote badminton in general and in its region (southern Free State) specifically.  With a foundation of good play and sound administration, FSBA is committed to expand its jurisdiction to all sections of its community.

The FSBA is for the last few years regarded as one of the strongest of South African badminton regions.  The Free State teams mainly play in the A-sections of the SA interprovincial tournaments, and have won the senior tournament twice, the under-19’s four  times (three in a row), the under-17’s three times in a row, the under-15’s twice and the under-13’s once.  The FSBA players in the past decade also held (out of 5 titles per annum in each section) 32 senior SA titles, 1 under-21 SA title, 22 junior (under-19) SA titles, 17 SA under-17 titles, 12 under-15 SA titles, 3 under-13 SA titles, 2 veterans (over 40) SA titles, 3 masters (over 50) SA titles, 3 Grand masters (over 55) SA titles, as well as 14 SASSU titles.  The UFS club has won the SASSU tournament five times.  The Bloemfontein Defence Club held the SA club champion title for three years.  In the national teams (of 4 men and 4 women) we had 6 senior, 1 under-21, 8 under-19, 7 under-17, 6 under-15, 2 Masters, 1 Grand Masters (over 55) and 1 Silver Eagle (over 60) players included.  In their respective tournaments, 7 players also claimed the titles for sportsmanship!  The FSBA has in 2008 awarded life membership to Martin Dednam for his three decades of dedicated service to the association as leading player, coach and administrator, and for his contribution to national badminton as coach and administrator.
